The non-profit association Helden wider Willen e.V. (HwW) was founded in 2006 and has currently 27 members. The objective is a contribution to artistic, cultural and educational practice. The rapprochement of arts, education, culture and consumers of everyday life should be reached with different projects like internships, workshops, courses, exhibitions or socio-cultural and media pedagogical projects. Helden wider Willen e.V. is the supporting association of the HAL (Hybrid Art Lab), an open space for interdisciplinary teamwork of artists, creative professionals, educators and people interested in new media, digital technologies and sustainable change within the community.
The members of the organisation HwW are currently working intensely on the development of international and local structures for integration also of refugees and migrants in order to reach better understand of different cultures and awareness for global challenges.
For this HwW is running the HAL Atelierhaus as an community center with space for residents and cultural exchange in the eastern part of Leipzig. Urban Development in this particular district requires a primary focus on cultural and social integration of different cultures. Based on experience from previous activities in social areas HwW is now preparing projects in collaboration with different international and local networks. One of its very significant supporting structures is the Tandem Europe network and exchange program for cultural managers through which HwW is creating the concept of The Honorary Hotel, a toolkit of activities/methods, as well as a network of cultural managers. Together they support the integration of newcomers by opening up cultural resources within local as well as online within european communities
